Frequently asked questions

Is card counting legal?

Counting cards in your head is legal in the United States — it is simply skilled play. Casinos are private businesses and may refuse service to suspected counters. Using any device or app at a live table is a crime in most gaming jurisdictions, which is why Card Counting Lab is a home-training tool only.

How does Hi-Lo card counting work?

Every card you see gets a tag: 2-6 count +1, 7-9 count 0, and 10s, faces and aces count -1. The sum is the running count. Divide it by the number of decks remaining to get the true count, which tells you when the shoe favors the player and how much to bet.

Is this blackjack simulator realistic?

Yes. It deals from a real multi-deck shoe with a cut card, supports S17/H17, double after split, resplits, late surrender, insurance and American or European hole-card rules, and the dealer follows the configured rules exactly. Strategy advice adapts to the rules you pick.

How much of an edge does card counting give?

With a 1-12 bet spread on a 6-deck H17 game at 75% penetration, our built-in million-hand simulations show roughly a +0.5% edge on money wagered for the counter versus about -0.5% for a flat-betting basic-strategy player — around 15 units gained per 1,000 hands, with brutal variance along the way.

Is Card Counting Lab free?

Yes — the full simulator, the counting trainer, the drills and the simulation lab are free. Chips are fictional practice units with no monetary value, and there is no real-money gambling of any kind.
